Another glorious day compliments of Mother Nature and God. Dark cerulean blue sky with ethereal chiffon clouds, fat and fluffy. Lots of birds singing. Sun so bright I needed sunglasses to sit on the porch. The sun was accenting all the different greens in the yards and trees lining the horizon. The kind of sun that kisses all the flowers blooms and makes them look up to the sky, enjoying the warmth on their petals.
Didn’t eat breakfast on the porch today. Could not sleep last night so I was out of sorts when I got up. Picked up my Wally World grocery order, got a summer hair cut and came home and ate lunch sitting in the swing. The sky was just as pretty at lunch. True cerulean color with no clouds to mar the blue. Getting ready for my mountain trip later in the month. So excited to travel with my oldest’s family. The grandchildren and I always have a marvelous time. Lots of laughter!
No critter sighting today. Only disturbing thing was watching a little green lizard leap off the porch banister to the back of a porch chair. Realized at that moment he was capable of jumping off the bannister onto ME while I was pondering in the swing. Kept one eye open when I was letting the sun warm my face. Penelope will bark at Balthazar, the king snake, but she just intently watches the porch lizards. No barking.
I was thinking while I was sitting in the swing. The yard was unusually quiet. Just a few birds and the squeak of the swing chain composed a yard symphony. I was pondering on what the perfect day would be if I could create one for myself. Thought first of having Chief and Rosie home for breakfast on the porch with me. Then I imagined a big porch swing on the shore at Hilton Head, beautifully set breakfast tray, a bagel and wild cherry jelly, delicious fruit, and a perfect cup of coffee that would stay hot long enough for me to enjoy sipping, while I watched the shore birds frolic. Next, I imagined a big family dinner with my daddy and mama and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered around a huge dining room table full of laughter.
Then it hit me. I was living the perfect day. Cup of hot coffee on the little table by the swing, yard freshly cut with birds flitting around and singing, little vegetables growing in my garden pots. All my family well and happy. Sometimes we wish for things that are already in front of us but we’re so busy with the “wish I hads” we can’t grasp our own perfect reality.
I think Mother Nature was proud of the perfect day she created for us today. She kept the sun bright and shiny and burned away the white clouds that sometimes obscure the blue sky. I love clouds but the deep blue sky always inspires me in a special way. I watched the sun setting as it caught the sky on fire with orange and yellow while still thinking and creating possible perfect days.

One of my perfect days, the birth of our first grandchild.
I think my perfect day involves the blessing of just waking up, a sunset or sunrise, speaking with loved ones, listening to music, a good cup of hot coffee, song birds in the yard, a fresh pack of chewing gum, laughter, and nothing scheduled that requires a bra. Smile!
A Perfect Day
When you come to the end of a perfect day,
And you sit alone with your thought,
While the chimes ring out with a carol gay
For the joy that the day has brought,
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
Can mean to a tired heart,
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray,
And the dear friends have to part?
Well, this is the end of a perfect day,
Near the end of a journey, too;
But it leaves a thought that is big and strong,
With a wish that is kind and true.
For mem’ry has painted this perfect day
With colors that never fade,
And we find at the end of a perfect day
The soul of a friend we’ve made.
