A deck of playing cards…

Woke up yesterday at the crack of dawn with the grandchildren. Cloudy rainy looking skies but we made it to swim team practice. The skies were overcast and full of rain but nothing marred another beautiful day with the grandchildren. The sun wasn’t out but my heart was full of sunshine from the grandchildren.

We have had the most fun with the simplest things. In the late afternoon yesterday I taught them how to build houses with a deck of playing cards. Had a few mad moments when some one blew a little tornado wind over the houses and blew them down but the giggles would start and we’d build again. We played with the cards for two hours. They got up this morning and started building again. We took photos of all our houses and tiptoed around so we wouldn’t jar the table.

Alexander finally got a roof and the beginnings of a second story on his card house.

Emerson went from house building to creating designs with two decks of playing cards.

Handley, so happy when she learned to stand the cards up!

This morning we waked up to a smiling Earth. Bright blue sky and white fluffy clouds followed us to swim team practice. I don’t usually take the children places when I’ve visited but they had swim team practice every day. Handley went first each morning and she was my GPS. She sounded just like the one on my phone! We laughed all the way there. When we came home after the boys practice I was so busy looking at the beautiful homes, I missed a turn. Her GPS comments had us all in stitches with her re-routing instructions. She is priceless and precious!

We went swimming for fun in late afternoon. The sky was blue and the sun was bright. The wind picked up and it got cloudy. We could hear thunder in the distance. We came home tired and happy,

They were glad to see their mama and daddy late afternoon and we made homemade pizzas for supper. After supper we sat on the porch and enjoyed talking and deer watching. Saw an eight point buck just saunter along in the back yard. He had several friends passing through with him. The children were playing baseball. The dog was so happy to have her people outside. She wagged her tail nonstop running around near the children.

Backyard visitor. Brought lots of friends!

We loaded up in their golf cart later and went “deer looking.” We rode by one house that had 20 deer walking around in their front yard. I’ve never seen anything like that. I saw a beautiful spotted fawn on their driveway this morning with two does. The children were so happy in the golf cart and Handley was singing the lyrics to a country song, belting it out as we rode down the road.

I couldn’t help but think this was just an ordinary day with my family and how it stirred my heart and how grateful I was to experience these moments. I was listening to the happiness of the children and knowing they didn’t yet know the beauty of these moments. Memories were being made that would help them remember me and their childhood. They’ll never forget their first card house and I’ll never forget the gleeful moments watching their excitement when they finally finished their creation. I know I’m blessed and I’m counting my many blessings.
