The sky speaks to the soul…

Did my porch pondering and swing sitting in the dusk of late afternoon after I had watered my flowers. Only my faithful cardinals were flitting around today. Was just too humid and too hot earlier for much porch sitting and pondering. The day was beautiful, though, lots of fluffy white clouds. After lunch pale gray clouds stretched themselves out, held hands, and covered the blue sky canvas. Might get a storm tonight. Didn’t see any twinkling stars in the sky at twilight, only the handsome gray and white half moon which is officially called a quarter moon. I can see the moon out my bedroom window through a frame of bamboo leaves. So pretty!

The sun lay her head down tonight at sunset and rolled off the edge of the pinkish orange horizon like a luscious Georgia peach. The clouds directly above her were raspberry and turquoise, quick to be painted and then quickly wiped clean of their hues. Strange how some of these wondrous sunsets take their time coloring the clouds. Other times the cloud paintings quickly dissipate. You turn around and it’s a different landscape.

In a seasonal sunset painting contest, science says winter has the most beautiful sunsets due to cooler temperatures, cleaner air, and the angle of the sun. Fall comes in closely at second place. Looking forward to watching Mother Nature lay her head down in winter sunsets but don’t know how she can paint anything more beautiful than the sunsets I’ve watched this summer. Mother Nature trades her orange watercolors for magenta colors on her winter artist’s palette. Gonna have my camera ready and be dressed in my feeted pajamas for photographing these winter sunsets.

My friend sends me lots of quotes. We both enjoying reading them and researching them. I specially love this one by Mia Kirshner. “The sky has a way of speaking to the soul. It offers calm in the midst of chaos, hope in the midst of despair, and light in the darkness of night.”

Looking up at a blue sky in the mornings makes me realize all the possibilities I have in a day. I can paint my sky with white fluffy clouds of happiness for all the blessings the day brings or I can paint storm clouds to cover the sky and rain tears of unhappiness. The blue sky can be a calm refuge in the chaos of life. I always look up at the sky in the mornings when I walk out on the porch to take Penelope for a walk. A blue sky always makes me smile. Makes me know all is right with my world.

When the storms rage we know this too shall pass and the sky will clear once again. I love a loud thunderstorm. Cleans the air and washes away troubles. Makes us realize God is in control. When the sun comes out after a rain storm it gives us hope in the midst of despair.

The sky does have a way of speaking to our souls. Take a quiet look up at the night sky when you are away from the city lights and you’ll see beauty in the black sky canvas. You’ll see light in the dark of night. The twinkling silver stars and the bright moon help us realize God is watching over us in the dark times. We know tomorrow will come with the day’s sunrise and the day is ours to choose.

“Life is like the sky — there are cloudy days but you know that sooner or later the sun will shine,” — Unknown.
