Today was a blue sky, porch swing, church pew pondering day. Father Sky never picked up his cloud making pastels. Did not see a cloud all day, just one jet contrail that changed into a giant feather cloud and floated away. Penelope enjoyed her pen, snoozing in the warm sunshine. The songbirds were crowded on the feeders and a dozen mourning doves bobbed around under the feeders. Everybody was enjoying the peaceful morning and that sneaky little kestrel swooped down at 60 miles per hour and scooped his breakfast goldfinch off one of the bird feeder perches. Always causes a pandemonium for the birds when he visits my yard. Mr. Kestrel is really handsome in his blue and rusty plumage but I wish he’d find another restaurant to get his meals. I was reading about kestrels and discovered they can hover like a helicopter. With a good headwind, the kestrels can flap their wings and maneuver their tail to stay in one spot while searching for prey. I guess I can share my goldfinches with him, reluctantly.
The sun was a blinding beam of silver light at sunset. Father Sky had not drawn any clouds for Mother Nature to touch with her watercolor brushes so she just brushed a golden glow across the horizon that radiated her warmth till the twilight crept in with the night’s darkness. I had to put my hand up to my eyes to shade them from the bright sun. I briefly wondered what it would feel like to touch the sun. It’s so therapeutic to sit in a swing and lean back and feel the sun’s rays kiss your face. You know me, I love to research stuff, so I quickly looked up the sun’s temperature, 9,932 degrees, and found out I would be immediately vaporized if I touched the sun. So much for that thought.
Then I thought of God as the sun, God bringing light and joy and warmth to our world. The sun represents life’s energy, controls the seasons, the ocean tides, the weather, and makes plant life grow to sustain us. God is glorious with his light and he brings comfort to this Earth like the sun on our face comforts us. God give us life and love and hope and grace.
St. Francis of Assisi said, “A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.” I know that’s true. When I’m unhappy, a moment in the swing with the sun on my cheeks just erases the sadness from my mind. God brings us comfort like the sun. I feel the swing is my church pew and I know God’s sunshine can bring light to us on the darkest of days. His sunbeams can bring about miracles through our prayers and comfort us when we’re sad and feel downtrodden.
God wants us to “walk in his light” serving others and glorifying him. Walking with God is a lifelong decision. Walking in the light with God is a challenging journey. The path is filled with trials and tribulations, but much joy and many blessings come from this walk. Choose a Godly path and walk in the light with God.
