Today is so pretty and sunny, the last remnants of summer playing out in my yard. I’m watching all the bees buzzing around my pansies, taking photos of those kind enough to not fly off when I approach them. The colors contrasting between the bees and the pansies is just as beautiful as the butterflies dancing on the zinnias. There is one yellow zinnia bloom left and I chased a cloudless sulphur butterfly around that bloom but it never stopped to dance. I wanted to capture the yellow of the butterfly with the yellow of the zinnia. I’ll try again tomorrow. I’m enjoying watching the bees this afternoon. They’ve been very patient with me and my camera.
I think bees are symbols of dedication and hard work. Bees are very industrious, never seen alone except when they are gathering food or seeking a new place to build a hive. They are selfless with their work. A third of the world’s food production is dependent on bees and bees pollinate over 80% of flowering plants including fruits and vegetables. So, if someone says you are as “busy a bee,” you are really busy.
Bumblebees really should not be able to fly because of their body size and their wing ratio. But with a miracle of God’s magic they fly, fast and furious. Bumblees flap their four wings front to back and rotate them like a figure-8 to create enough lift to fly, flying forwards, sideways and even in reverse. They do quite well aerodynamically with their chubby little selves. City Church for All Nations speaks of “bumblebee miracles” — “God designed bumblebees with a purpose and equipped them with the remarkable ability to defy conventional understanding. Through these tiny creatures, God showcases His capacity to perform miracles that transcend human logic.”
A little bumblebee is a sign of God’s miraculous power. Christianity sees bees as symbols of God’s love and strength. God’s little honeybees visit 2 million flowers and travel 55,000 miles to produce one pound of honey. The bees teach us the power of working together to accomplish something. Just imagine if we could spread the love of Jesus with as much enthusiasm and partnership as the bees, always working for the benefit of their community.
When we’re asked by God to complete a task we feel we’re not capable of we need to remember the bumblee flys because God told it to fly. God never asks us to do something he doesn’t believe we can accomplish. We don’t need to question God. We put our faith and our prayers in God’s hands and we can move that mountain blocking our path. When we work together with God, anything is possible.
“The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors for others.” — Saint John Chrysostom.
