The wind blows wherever it pleases…

Father Sky looked in his box of pastels today and picked up a beautiful blue stick to sketch the sky. His sky is perfect, looks like a deep blue sapphire ring resting on the warm finger of the sun, so in love she’s beaming with joy. I wonder if Father Sky gave it to her. I wonder if he shopped at Tiffany’s. Maybe the man in the moon purchased the ring. I love this quote from The Minds Journal about the sun and the moon — “Sometimes, I think of the sun and the moon as lovers who rarely meet, always chase, and almost always miss one another. But once in a while, they do catch up, and they kiss, and the world stares in awe of their eclipse.” Personally, I like the romance between the sun and Father Sky.

The wind is cool and brisk, blowing my pillows from the porch swings, banging the wind chime pipes so loud I can hear them in the back of the house. The bamboo are slapping each other in the wind, clicking their hollow stems together as they bend down and twirl around, sounding like melodious rim clicks from a band’s drum. The sun set through the colors of a rich grapefruit pink champagne, warming the horizon in shades of soft pink from the brushes of Mother Nature’s watercolors. Another glorious day gone as the darkness of night sets in.

Biblical scripture in John 3 compares the Holy Spirit’s wind to the earth’s wind. Verse eight reads, “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” We can’t see the wind but we feel it. We can’t see God but we can feel his presence in our lives. The results of the wind blowing can be seen and felt just as we can be moved by the Holy Spirit and see the results of God’s grace in our lives. When the Holy Spirit blows around us it brings changes like the wind. The wind can be destructive to our lives but God’s wind is always constructive.

God’s spirit is felt as a mighty wind in Acts 2:2. The scripture reads, “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” Scripture in Chapter 55 speaks of the wind through the trees as “all the trees of the field shall clap their hands,” the trees clapping in praise and thanksgiving for God. I love that thought.

Next time the wind caresses your face say a “thank you” to God for all your blessings.

“God provides the wind, man must raise the sail.” — St. Augustine
