God is the perfect poet…

Old man winter blew his cold breath all day. He just can’t help interrupting Mother Nature’s spring awakening. Gonna frost tonight so I covered up my rose bush and my limelight hydrangea. My little rose bush is bursting with pink buds. Kit Kat thought I was making her a house when I covered the rose bush with a sheet. She stood on the porch bannister and put her paw on the sheet, testing to see if she could walk on the sheet. Then she jumped down and walked under the bush with a few happy meows. I hope she doesn’t pull the sheet off walking under it. First time she ran out from under the sheet she had the zoomies, didn’t pay attention to where she was running and ran slap into Sneaky McFluffy, another cat that sneakily steals Kat’s food. We’re trying to not let Sneaky McFluffy move in with us.

As I sit and ponder in my lady den, I’m watching the chickadees and goldfinches on the feeder outside the den windows, thinking about a quote I read this morning by Irving Stone. “Each of us has his own alphabet with which to create poetry.” If we look at life as a glorious poem we can find poetry in our everyday life. Our life is a narrative tapestry of feelings and experiences and relationships that ebb and flow like the lines of a beautiful poem. Ephesians 2:10 reads, “We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One.” Robert Cordin says “a poem is a form of prayer, an act in which the poet attends to both God and to what is before him.”

A simple definition of poetry is an artistic writing that stirs emotions. As I write tonight I’m thinking how can I compare God to a poet. We can think of God as a poet as he crafted the earth with beauty as a poet creates art with words. God stirs our hearts through the glory and wonder of his creation. God’s words inspire us and offer us an emotional connection through his biblical scripture. I read that roughly one third of the Old Testament is poetry. In Psalms, Proverbs, and Song of Solomon we read God’s word as poetic writings, providing a source of inspiration and connection to him.

God created poetry as a way to create an emotional and spiritual connection with humanity. God’s message read as poetry moves our hearts and deepens our faith. We grow closer to God reading his words.
