“Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet…”

“The rain begins with a single drop,” Manal al-Sharif. Been reading quotes today about the rain. I love a rainy day. Good time for some of us to nap or to read. Never can take a nap in the day time, I just lie there wide awake. Guess you can call it resting. Not good at reading novels either since Chief died, can’t concentrate to follow the plot, but I do enjoy researching quotes on various topics. Roger Miller said, “Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” I love that! This is a beautiful quote about rain and my favorite — “Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby,” Langston Hughes.

Some of us love to walk in the rain, enjoying our path no matter what obstacles God puts on the road. We’re just grateful to be alive. “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain,” Vivian Greene. Guess it’s hard for some of us to enjoy dancing in the rain. Some of us can’t see the beauty in God’s creation and a little rain just gets us wet and flustered. Instead of enjoying the rhythm of the rain and its symphonies of silver drops, we get depressed by the inconvenience of God watering his earth. The rain symbolizes God’s blessing. God’s grace showers down on us like the rain. In the song Grace Like Rain we sing in the chorus, “and hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me. And hallelujah, and all my stains are washed away.”

Just as the rain cleans the earth, God grace can cleanse our souls and refresh our faith. Krishna Das quotes Hindu wisdom, saying, “The grace of God is coming down upon us all the time like a gentle rain, but we forget to cup our hands.” Bible scripture speaks of “our cup runneeth over,” filled with God’s love and spiritual truth. We read in Psalm 23:5, “Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” When we’re facing the rain or difficult challenges we can go to God and he will fill our cups with joy. The cups are symbols of our lives and we hold our cupped hands out to catch the blessings of God’s grace. He will fill our hands generously and provide for our needs. Our cups will run over with God’s love.

“Fill the cup of happiness for others, and there will be enough overflowing to fill yours to the brim.” — Rose Pastor Stokes
