“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy…”

Beautiful day, the sun has burned off the thin gray clouds. My grandchildren have been so sweet. The parentals flew off this morning for a short anniversary trip. My granddaughter made pancakes for breakfast. She’s so exact with her measuring. I couldn’t get her to try the Patty no measure way. Told her I used a Mason jar for my measuring cup. She’s a great helper and a great little cook in the kitchen.

Been playing board games and when it’s not my turn to play, I’m watching the sky out the tall windows. The sky is clear and blue, sunny and hot. A beautiful blue sky can be a source of motivation and inspiration, all life’s limitless possibilities wrapped up in the blue heavens. Angie Weiland Crosby says, “When you reach for what feels impossible, you grow into a beautiful version of what is possible.” Our worlds can’t always be a big blue sky but when the storm clouds gather, God is waiting for us to reach out to him to light the darkness.

In Biblical scripture the blue sky represents God’s power and the beauty of his creation. The color blue symbolizes royalty and the heavens and is associated with God’s presence and holiness. Maybe God’s favorite color is blue. Scripture in Ezekiel says God’s throne is made of lapis lazuli and scripture in Exodus says the pavement under God’s feet is sapphire.

I think we can see God’s glory in the wide expanse of the blue sky. The ever changing sky, like our lives, can be peaceful and clear, a little cloudy, full of storms, or magnificently painted like the sunrises and the sunsets. No matter what clouds form in our sky we have the promises of God that he will help us through the storms. Our lives are full of different emotions and experiences just as the sky is ever changing its blue canvas. The sky can be full of clouds or full of stars, all inspiring us and reminding us that we are but a small speck on God’s glorious earth.

We are clouds on our journey in life. We morph and change with God’s handiwork. As he colors our lives, we float down the path he’s chosen for us, bumping, crashing, and floating along on our journey. Change is constant with clouds and we’re in constant change with the flow of our life. Clouds add color to the sunset. I hope I add color to someone’s sunset. My grandchildren are painting me a magnificent sunset this evening, each curve of the rainbow a wondrous memory to rest in my heart.

I think we can choose to be a cotton boll cloud, round and full, happily kissed by the sunlight, enjoying the journey and the changes life brings. Or, we can be storm clouds, disgruntled as we morph and change, turning dark with a thunderstorm’s purples, anticipating rain that will come filling us with anger. But all of us should look for the “bow in the sky” as God says in Genesis, knowing God’s love will help us weather the storms. He doesn’t always promise days with sunshine but he does promise rainbows. Imagine the clouds’ view of a rainbow!

It’s so calming to watch the clouds float along in the sky. Some days I’ve watched them all day as I sit perched in the swing. I always notice the sky as I’m driving. Clouds can teach us patience as we patiently wait to see them change shapes, teaching us to slow down and live in the moment. We race so fast through our skies in life we don’t enjoy the journey and before we know it our race is over. We’re at the finish line with regrets. I’ve said this many times, don’t dwell on the past and don’t worry about the future, enjoy and live each day well.

Sanjay Sazzad said, “The more clouds you have in your sky, the more colorful sunset will be.” If family and friends are clouds we should have beautiful sunsets everyday. The light that shines from within the top of the rounded clouds is a smile from God, a kiss of sunshine, all illuminated by God’s love.

Our lives are full of different emotions and experiences just as the sky is ever changing its blue canvas. The sky can be full of clouds or full of stars, all inspiring us and reminding us that we are but a small speck on God’s glorious earth.

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.” — Eleanora Duse
