Life happens, that’s the beauty of living…

Today has been a day! Dentist for a crown placement, Dollar G for dog food, then grocery store. Came home and saw a small puddle of water between the sunroom and living room. The waters had dripped from the molding in the middle of the cased opening between the rooms. No water on the wall. Has not dripped a drop since I came home. The leak is right in the middle of where the sunroom’s roof joins the wall of my house’s second floor. We had a brief wind storm last night so I’m hoping the rain blew in some strange way and the leak won’t be a money trap. Waiting on the plumber to call me back. Just had a downpour of rain and not a drip or drop has fallen from the molding yet. Story of my life! Older homes are like a high maintenance woman, always needing something expensive. Woe is me. My budget is set up for duct tape and gorilla glue repairs. My handyman actually complimented me once on my duct taping skills.

I’m always reminded, when aggravations of life drop in on a pleasant day, that life happens and that’s the beauty of living. The little rain sprinkles or the heavy thunderstorms remind us to be thankful for the blessings of days full of sunshine. Scripture in John 16 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” My small leak is just a little sprinkle of rain on a glorious sunny day.

This verse from Philippians 4:13 helps me weather my life’s dark storms. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” To this I add, “I’ve buried my daughter and my husband, lived through those nightmares, so I’ve got nothing to fear. I know God is near.” These words give me peace in stressful situations.

Looked up August 20 in my book of daily quotes to read today’s quote. The featured quote was from Bruce Lee. “A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.” I’m a question person. Don’t know if that’s good thing or not. I always say, “I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t want to know the answer.” We learn something from every question. Leanne Morgan, the comedian, said her daughter asked her if Jesus ever had head lice. I love it! We learn from our questions and curiosity fuels wisdom. Chief always could answer my questions. Lots of days when I’m perched in the porch swing with my iPad I’m researching some question that popped in my mind.

The Bible tells us God wants us to ask questions. Jesus said to ask, to seek, and to knock for answers. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” We have to be humble in our faith and persistent in our prayers when we ask God for answers. We don’t always get an immediate answer but God will eventually grant our request or steer us in a different direction. He knows what’s best for us having mapped out our life’s path beforehand. Regardless, he will show us the way. If the door is shut, just knock and God will open the door.

“Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.” — Voltaire
