Sunset is the most spiritual moment…

Sunset burned with wildfire beauty tonight.

Today was oldest sister-in-law’s birthday. Her daughter carried us to LaGrange to eat lunch as a birthday treat. We laughed and chowed down at Longhorn, bought beautiful pansies at Home Depot, shopped around in TJ Maxx and ate DQ Blizzards on the way home. I had the best time and I’m grateful for the loving relationship I have with these two. Us older ones drive the young one crazy but she laughs along with us and is a good sport.

Ran across this quote last night when I was reading. “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present,” Lao Tzu. Ponder on it for a minute and see where you are in life. I’m at peace living each day as it comes. Peace is blessed on us when we have a prayerful relationship with God, when we follow his commandments. Scripture in Proverbs 3:1-2 states, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.”

Peace in our life leads to better health and helps us focus. So many negative things are impacting our lives now. Bible scripture says we’re promised peace if we believe in God. God can give us all the peace of mind we’re searching for. Philippians 4:6-7 states, ”Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Sat in the swing after supper and watched the twilight dim the day’s light. Sunset burned with wildfire beauty tonight, Mother Nature flaming the horizon in watercolors in shades of orange and red and yellow flames. Father Sky and the sun raced down the horizon hand in hand as the wildfire singed their coattails. So beautiful and so swiftly burned out.

Sunsets are spiritual moments for me, connecting me with God’s universe through the beautiful colors painted across the horizon. When I gaze on the day’s sunset I feel wonder and peace. I feel inspired by the beauty of God’s handiwork. Mehmet Murat Ildan wrote, “Sunset is the most spiritual moment where the human race meets the extraordinary spirit of the universe.” I feel this.

God makes “the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.”
