Some ordinary days are so special…

Woke up early today to ponder in the swing and eat my breakfast before I motored off to visit the grandchildren. The morning was waking so pretty. Light blue sky canvas with a white swipe of thin see thru clouds. The birds were singing and visiting the feeders. The cardinals were so pretty when the sun highlighted them.

My drive up to Peachtree City was so pleasant. The sunshine was bright and all the colors of greens on the landscape were washed clean from the storms. The Earth always looks different after a storm. It’s like a promise from God of beautiful days after stormy times. Can’t have a rainbow without the rain!

The day has been a memory maker. We went fishing late morning at Lake Kedron. It’s a 235-acre reservoir in northern Peachtree City. Stores 1.0 billion gallons of water. There were the most beautiful Canadian geese swimming around the pier area. The males and females were swimming with their goslings in a line between them. Several families of geese with goslings in different growth stages. The goslings were the softest of browns and some still had a few downy feathers sticking up. The mature geese bathed and preened right in front of the pier where we were fishing, their long black necks sparkling in the sun.

Alexander and Thomas caught a fish but Handley and I just fed our worms to the fish. I hate to admit it but I couldn’t properly fish for watching the geese. Did learn how to properly put a live worm on the fishing hook. Been doing it wrong all these years. Alexander was working on a Scout merit badge in fishing. We almost melted before he caught a fish. Mother Nature turned up the heat today, too.

We came home and rested for a while then headed to the community swimming pool. The kids practiced their swim team strokes and enjoyed showing me how well they are swimming now. Supper was delicious and we enjoyed eating with older friends who were house sitting at their daughter’s next door. We lingered at the dinner table and enjoyed our conversations.

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. Some ordinary days are so special. Something sparks on these days, everything falls into place, and all is right in our world. We need to be mindful of the small joys of life. Appreciate every day. I’m grateful for all my ordinary days.

“We have to make good use of the time we have. It’s that simple. We have to wake up every day, knowing that it’s not just an ordinary day. We have to take the moment, seize each day,” — Orlando Bloom.
