A rainy day reflection…

Sat on the porch late afternoon in a cool rain enjoying the soft lullaby of the raindrops hitting the trees in the yard. The bamboos are wet leaning over as in a prayers of thanksgiving for the rain. Needed a sweater but I was so content, I didn’t want to get up out of the swing and come in the house to look for one. Penelope crawled under her blanket in her little pen and took a short nap. The neighborhood dog walked over on her bouncy white feet and by the time Penelope had struggled out of her blanket the dog had bounced over to the neighbor’s yard. That big dog is so light on her feet and has such a happy gait, wanders all over the neighborhood, seems to be so grateful to be alive. I kinda feel that way today, too.

The older I get the more I’m thankful for my family and my friends who are included in my family circle. A family is the foundation of society. Families teach us how to love each other and are there for us to lean on when needed. Families offer us support and security. There are so many situations in life where family is a lifeline and an anchor.

I know I’m fortunate to have three loving brothers and their families. They were my rocks when Chief died. We circle our wagons around the family when we have illness or death. Can’t imagine my life without all of them. We all get along well and enjoy each other’s company. Our families are still growing and we gather on the holidays and share a meal together. These family dinners are my most cherished memories. I hope our children will keep these traditions going for their children and grandchildren.

One of my friends recently lost her partner and has suffered without the support of an extended family network. My heart has bled for her during her late afternoon porch sittings with me. She’s grieving for a life that had just started blooming. Her friends have rallied around and are supporting her as she finds her way without him. The path of widowhood has so many road blocks and pot holes and piles of rubble to steer around. She’s driving slowly down this detour in her life and I pray she can find some sunshine on her new path. God bless you friend and give you peace on your journey.

A favorite prayer of mine —

A Prayer of Blessing for Your Family — Heavenly Father, All good things come from you. Bless our family with happiness, good health, love, and financial stability. May our family stay strong through tough times and rejoice in good times. May our family be a support to one another and always look to you for guidance and direction. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain,” — Vivian Greene.
