Buy them whoopi cushions…

Pondering on the back porch at my oldest son’s home in Peachtree City. The drive up was so pleasant and so pretty this morning. Father Sky had sketched a blue sky canvas and filled it with luminous angel feather clouds. Occasionally the feathers would blow away and I could see the sky’s sun kissed azure. The songbirds are singing, my granddog Magnolia is happily running around the yard, enjoying the sunshine, excited I’m on the back porch with with her. A small flock of chickadees and goldfinches are flitting around the backyard bird feeder. My grandchildren are always happy to see me and my son and daughter-in-law make me feel welcome and at home. I always enjoy my visits.

Can’t see the sunset from the back porch today but I know Mother Nature conspired with the sun and Father Sky to create a magnificent sunset, brushing her watercolors across the horizon in Hawaiian pinks and bold oranges. Father Sky had to drag the moon and stars from their cloud covers, too, but they were hidden from view tonight. I’m happy to be here with my children as the twilight settles and the night blooms awake in the black velvet sky.

I’m focused on my grandchildren for the next few days, spending quality time with them and making memories that will be cherished. I love to hear them laugh and try not to laugh when a lively brother-sister squabble breaks out. I think spending time with our grandchildren keeps generations of the family together.

Grandparents serve a biblical role in their families with the responsibility of being sure the family’s faith in God is nurtured and passed on to the next generation. The most important thing we can give our children and our grandchildren is unconditional love. Love them, truly listen to them, give them undivided attention, buy them whoopi cushions, and occasionally sprinkle them with fairy dust. “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their parents,” Proverbs 17:6.

“A grandparents’ love will never grow old.” — Unknown
