Winds of destiny carry you aloft…

The wind would blow the hairs off a wart hog’s back today. The wind chimes are banging and clanging, the bamboos are bending down to touch their toes, the old oaks are shedding small branches. A good size oak limb fell in the side yard, just missing my car and landing partly in the dump truck bed parked in my neighbor’s side yard. I’m perched in the swing trying to ponder and my hair is blowing all over my head. I look like Albert Einstein.

The song birds are sparse today. Maybe it’s the wind and the loud wind chimes keeping them away or maybe they are hiding from the circling red hawk who is following a silver wing tipped vulture who’s climbing the sky stairwell. The sky is a kaleidoscope of cigar smoke grays and whites, heavily overcast but the sun manages to brightly peek out occasionally.

Going to my nephew’s baseball game late afternoon, it’s a double header. Putting a few bricks in my pockets so I don’t blow away. His team won both games and I enjoyed the games and seeing friends. He plays first base. He always thanks me for coming to his football and baseball games. I appreciate his thanks, always makes me feel special. He’s a great kid and I love him. I peeked behind the bleachers around sunset and saw Mother Nature had painted the clouds turquoise and pink. I know the sunset was wondrous from the colors of the wind swept clouds. I’ll catch the sunset tomorrow.

The wind has made itself known all day, strong and cool, bending the oak trees’ limbs, pushing the empty swings across the porch, and marching the brown magnolia leaves down the street. Jesus compares the Holy Spirit to the wind in John 3:8, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

The wind can change the shape of the landscape just as the Lord can change our lives when open our hearts and put our faith in him. The wind can move ships across the ocean and push the blades of a windmill. We can’t see the wind but we can feel it. The winds blow and changes happen. God can bring changes to our lives through our prayers and thanksgiving. God’s wind can part the oceans and move mountains. We can’t see the face of God but we can feel his presence in our lives and we can feel the warm winds of his love.

“May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.” — George Jung
