The earth embraces the sun…

Spring sprang forth today in all its awakening. Father Sky has pushed his white pastel stick across the blue sky and dimmed the bold azure sky to a soft baby blue. The sun is warm but it’s still cool in the shade this morning. As Charles Dickens said, “It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold, when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade.” The wind chimes are pinging in the soft breeze heralding the first day of spring across the land.

No clouds for Mother Nature to paint this afternoon so the sunset was subdued but glorious in its pale beauty. I watched a muted pale pink blush glow across the horizon like a beautiful white tulip, blooming open with its petals kissed pink with Mother Nature’s watercolors. Twilight dimmed the pale pink as the moon and stars were pinned on the night canvas by Father Sky. The first day of Spring is gone.

Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth. We have the flowers blooming, the trees budding with leaves, and the miracles of new life around us. Spring is a reminder that there is always hope in the darkness of winter. Life wakes up in the warm sunshine and our spirits are lifted. Bible scripture in the Song of Solomon 2:11-12 says, “For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”

Spring is also a reminder for us to live a full life, leaving the past behind and focusing on today. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is never promised. Nature starts over each spring and we can start over, too, letting God take our worries away, guiding us to a new season of happiness in our faith. We can be motivated by the energy of a new season as it blooms. Harriet Ann Jacobs’ writes, “The beautiful spring came; and when nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.”

Change can be a wonderful thing. We watch the spring landscape change — seedlings rise up in the warm sun, trees become green with leaves, flowers bud and bloom, birds sing and build nests, nature’s little animals raise their young. Spring symbolizes starting fresh and starting over. “Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer,”— Anita Krizzan.

I think we should look at spring as a season of hope, a time to revitalize our lives after the cold of winter. We should be optimistic and look for opportunities to share our faith and bloom in our Christianity.

“Behind, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun and we shall soon see the results of their love.” — Sitting Bull
