Black clouds make the blue skies even more beautiful…

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork,” Psalm 19:1.

Today is so pretty in its spring dressings. Looks like a page from a children’s picture book. I can see a glimpse of heaven in the sky today. The magnolia leaves are sparkling in the sunshine when the breeze shifts them on the branches. The sky is azure blue, sketched full of fluffy round clouds, some of their bellies colored cigar smoke gray and pale purple, others bleached snow white by the sun’s rays. The birds are singing their prayers of thanks for this sublime Sunday, their symphonies heard all over the neighborhood. I’m sitting in the swing contemplating getting a blanket or a jacket. Mother Nature is giving us a cool morning and the wind is pretty brisk. The wind chimes are clanging and the freight train is blowing its whistle, welcoming another glorious day on planet earth. I’m praying, perched on my church pew in the porch swing, thanking the Lord for all my blessings and the gift of a beautiful sky.

“There is a big blue sky waiting just behind the clouds,” Krystal Jean. Our worlds can’t always be a big blue sky but behind the storm clouds God is waiting for us to reach out to him. He is always there, steadfast and strong. A beautiful blue sky can be a source of motivation and inspiration for us. All the limitless possibilities of life are wrapped up in a blue sky. “When you reach for what feels impossible, you grow into a beautiful version of what is possible,” Angie Weiland Crosby.

In Biblical scripture the blue sky represents God’s power and the beauty of his creation. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork,” Psalm 19:1. The color blue also symbolizes royalty and the heavens and is associated with God’s presence and holiness. Scripture in Ezekiel says God’s throne is made of lapis lazuli and scripture in Exodus says the pavement under God’s feet is sapphire. Other mentions of blue include sacred garments, tabernacle furnishings, and decorative tassels on garments. Maybe God’s favorite color is blue.

I think we can see God’s glory in the wide expanse of the blue sky. The ever changing sky, like our lives, can be peaceful and clear, a little cloudy, full of storms, or magnificently painted like the sunrises and the sunsets. No matter what clouds form in our sky we have the promises of God that he will help us through the storms. Our lives are full of different emotions and experiences just as the sky is ever changing its blue canvas. The sky can be full of clouds or full of stars, all inspiring us and reminding us that we are but a small speck on God’s glorious earth.

Lamentations 3:22-23 states, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” As the sun rises each day, waking the earth with its vibrant and warm colors, we feel hope in the promise of a new day. When rain falls and storms come, we learn that trials can be overcome through our faith. We have the promise of God’s rainbow to reassure us of God’s everlasting love. We learn that life is full of changes and challenges but we can always find God’s blue sky behind the clouds.

“My experiences remind me that it’s those black clouds that make the blue skies even more beautiful.” — Kelly Clarkson
