Did some bird watching today, seated in my red striped beach chair, my feet in the Atlantic Ocean, watching two dolphins frolic in the blue green ocean waters. A murder of crows playing in the loblolly pines on the side of our beach house kept distracting me while I was on shark patrol, cawing and arguing, composing a bird symphony I called chaos. Our squeals every time the dolphins breached the ocean’s surface just added to the musical composition.
It was blue sky and hot sunshine, perfectly beautiful day to enjoy the water. I love watching the big pelicans slowing down to land on the water, their wings awkwardly trying to slow them down, then plop they hit the ocean to bob up and down with the waves’ undulations like toy tug boats. The brown pelicans are handsome birds, comically elegant, flying in squadrons over the ocean. I’m enjoy watching them this morning.
Psalm 102:6 reads, “I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.” Scripture uses the pelican as a symbol of self-sacrifice and nurturing. God nurtures us and gathers us under his wings of love. Psalm 91:4 states, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” God serves as our protector. When we trust in God’s grace he will calm the storms and ease our fears.
I watched the sunset tonight as Mother Nature lit a wild fire that burned bright across the horizon. My oldest grandson has become my blog photographer on this trip. He captured tonight’s sunset in all it’s glory. As Sharon Rene said, “Enjoy the beauty of a sunset, nature’s farewell kiss for the night.”
